Full STEAM Ahead
Bringing Life to Learning
Exploration is the foundation of learning. Our Full STEAM Ahead mobile makerspace is designed to inspire creativity and build problem-solving skills in individuals of all ages. Focused on the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM), our mobile learning space brings life to learning.
Focus Areas:
Current Progress:
The design team of Maureen, Paul, and student Caleb along with
Dr. Jason Ohler as our research consultant and myself took a school
year to research makerspaces and consider options for a mobile
resource that could be moved between schools. We settled on a
cart that would be housed at each school for a month or so at a time.
We also hired Shoshi, a Sitka Winter Fellow, to person the cart and
assist teachers and students during planning and implementation.
The mobile makerspace cart was available as an option for teachers
throughout the 2016-17 school year. It was is designed to allow
all teachers and students throughout the district to experience the
power of learning that comes through making!
The mobile makerspace cart was a huge success, and a need was
identified to have a smaller cart available at each school, which began
with the 2017-18 school year. Here's to creating and learning!
